Murray Bros. Management is pleased to announce the addition of a new shift in our Scragg Mill starting Nov 21, 2022. The added shift will see 15-20 employees working 44 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, from 4:00PM to 3:30AM. Murray Bros. is happy to see ongoing strong demand for our products, including hardwood lumber, softwood lumber, and residual products like wood chips and sawdust. This sustained demand has made the addition of a new shift an easy decision and we are pleased to see it become a reality last night.

The Scragg Mill Night Shift crew brings together an array of people, ranging in age, gender, hometown (from Lake St. Peter to Barry’s Bay and everywhere in between!) and sawmill experience. Millwork takes a vigorous person to do the job and without the crew being ready, willing, and able to take on the challenge, we wouldn’t be anywhere. With temperatures falling below zero consistently, the work can be particularly grueling and so we thank those who have made the change to the new shift. Hiring will be ongoing for this shift, as well as the day shift, so if you or someone you know likes working with a team while facing a tough challenge, please send us an email.

Murray Bros. is hopeful that the increased production through the new shift will help combat supply issues that have plagued some manufactures throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The question of material availability and timeframes throughout the pandemic have been frustrating for consumers, from large manufacturers to individuals at the retail level. The night shift crew will be processing Aspen, Red Pine, White Spruce, and Hardwoods over the first couple of weeks in operation. Sawing these species in order on the extra shift will help our sales team fill existing orders while also allowing them to take on new orders. The added production will give our customers the confidence that they will get their material in a timely manner without compromising on quality they’ve come to know. We are hopeful that this shift will bring improvements in increasing availability of our products, while reducing wait times, two things everyone can appreciate.

So, with that, we are very excited to have the new shift up and running and we look forward to getting that order to you all the better!
